MALAYSIA – Malaysia’s 2025 Safe Internet Campaign has successfully reached 8,462 schools and benefitted more than 369,000 students nationwide as of Nov 30, according to Communications Ministry Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin.

Speaking at the Terengganu state-level launch at the Taman Tamadun Islam Convention Centre, he said the initiativewhich began in January will continue next year to strengthen ongoing efforts to protect students from online threats.

The campaign covers key areas such as strong password practices, scam prevention, deepfake awareness, misinformation detection and responsible digital behaviour. It includes training modules, learning materials, and engagement sessions with schools, communities, and government agencies.

In Terengganu alone, the programme has reached students from 435 schools, with 14,351 students participating in workshops, talks, and interactive activities. Nik Kamaruzaman said this reflects the state’s strong commitment to prioritising digital safety education.

He expressed hope that the initiative will expand further to involve parents, youth groups, village communities, mosques, and both public and private sector partners, ultimately building a safer and more ethical digital environment for future generations.

A teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Sulaiman 1, Dr Quek Soh Theng, said raising awareness on internet safety and cyberbullying is vital, as many communities still lack exposure to digital risks.

She emphasised that such programmes should continue to nurture a more vigilant and responsible generation of internet users. Source: BERNAMA
