Cybersecurity company Malwarebytes has joined the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) as a supporting member, strengthening its commitment to combating the global rise of online scams.
The company said the partnership will enhance collaboration with industry players and support ongoing efforts to protect users from increasingly sophisticated digital fraud tactics.
Malwarebytes highlighted findings from its recent global survey of more than 1,300 mobile users, which revealed the growing scale of the problem:
- Nearly half of users encounter scam attempts daily
- Only 15% feel confident in recognising scams
- Over one-third have fallen victim, with 75% reporting emotional distress afterward
Malwarebytes’ general manager of consumer business, Mark Beare, described scams as a “global crisis” costing hundreds of billions annually and causing widespread emotional harm.
He said the company is addressing the issue through investigative research, advanced tools, and partnerships like GASA.
The company also promoted its AI-powered scam detector, Scam Guard, which provides real-time scam identification, warning users about suspicious messages, links, and content while enabling easy scam reporting.
Beare noted that modern scams often use deepfakes, AI-manipulated images, and highly targeted lures based on stolen personal data, underscoring the need for stronger public protection.
